Domenico Dolce was born in Polizzi Generosa, Italy on September 13, 1958. Domenico's family was not a poor family. In fact, his family owned a small clothing business in which Domenico also worked since childhood. His partner, Stefano Gabbana was born in Milan, Italy on November 14, 1962. Initially, Stefano pursued graphic design but soon dived into the fashion world afterwards.
Dolce & Gabbana was officially founded in Milan, Italy in 1985 by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. They took part in the Talent group in Milan, Italy at the official invitation of the Italian fashion promoter, Beppe Modenese.

A year later, they produced their first collection under the title "True Woman". The following year, they produced ready to wear clothing in Legnano, Milan, Italy. Dolce & Gabbana's first male collection appeared in 1990. In 1994, they launched the D & G label, inspired by street wear and a younger look at the time. The clothes were produced and distributed by Ittierre.

In the same year, Domenico and Stefano produced corsets and T-shirts with a more open style on the chest.
